We’ve arrived at a moment of midsummer abundance. The gardens are swelling. The hedgerows hum with life. If you’ve been walking with us through July’s journey of compassion and care, this is the turning point. The inhale before the full moon exhales.
And not always other people. Sometimes, it’s you that needs defending.

This is the Wyrt Moon. The great green witch’s moon. The one that speaks in scent and sap and steam. A time to gather what’s grown, to honour the quiet work of tending, and to celebrate what’s come to bloom, even if you’re not quite sure what it all means yet.
This is not the time to plant. It’s the time to notice.
The Magic of the Wyrt Moon
The Wyrt Moon, named from the old word wyrt meaning herb or plant, marks the traditional time for harvesting herbs at their most potent. It falls when summer heat slows the body but awakens the senses. Herbs are brimming with oil and essence. Dreams are more vivid. Divination feels easier. Everything is steeped in a kind of heady, living magic.
During the waxing moon, herbs gathered fresh are best for teas, tinctures, infusions, and charms of abundance. Come the waning moon, the focus turns to drying, preserving, and cleansing. But this week, just before the full moon rises on the 13th, we are in the peak.
It’s time to gather. To give thanks. To taste what you’ve been growing, spiritually, magically, and literally.
Your Life as a Living Garden
The Wyrt Moon doesn’t just ask what you’ve harvested in your herb patch. It whispers, “What are you harvesting in your life?”
So much of the year can pass in trying to catch up, or fix, or improve. But midsummer invites a different kind of reflection. What if you paused long enough to acknowledge the herbs you have grown?
A boundary you held.
A truth you finally spoke aloud.
A habit you didn’t realise you’d shifted.
This week, try seeing yourself through the same lens you’d use on your garden or altar, with appreciation for what’s come into being. You can prune later. For now, admire the bloom.
Simple Rituals for Wyrt Moon Gratitude
Here are a few simple rituals that honour the Wyrt Moon’s magic:
1. Herb Harvesting Spell
Go out in the morning, just after the dew dries. Snip herbs with intention—saying aloud what you're ready to receive. Mugwort, rosemary, lemon balm, mint, or thyme all work beautifully.
Dry the herbs slowly in a warm, shaded place. Let your home fill with their scent. Know that this smell is the spell.
2. Tea Leaf Divination
Brew a pot of loose leaf tea (lavender, rose, or chamomile are lovely choices). As you sip, ask your question. Pour out the last sip into a white bowl and swirl the leaves. Let the images form stories. Trust your first impressions. The herbs always speak.
3. Ogham or Nature Rune Pull
Go into the woods or garden and choose a stick or stone that calls to you. Sit quietly and ask, “What do I most need to understand about my current harvest?” Mark it with a rune or ogham, or simply keep it as your Wyrt Moon talisman.
4. Gratitude Offering
Lay out a simple offering under the full moon: dried herbs, bread, a little wine or honey. Say thank you to the land, to yourself, to the work you’ve done quietly and faithfully behind the scenes.

This isn’t about doing more. It’s about seeing more.
Noticing the fullness. Honouring the path you’ve walked. Savouring what’s already been gathered, even if it came in odd shapes or unexpected timing.
You are already blooming in ways your past self dreamed of. Let this Wyrt Moon remind you.
It’s safe to be proud. It’s safe to harvest. And it’s more than safe, it’s sacred, to give thanks.
